Candela Obscura: Chapter 2 Q&A with Luis Carazo

Tell us a little bit about your character in Candela Obscura Chapter 2.

Marion, to use Auntie B’s words (Marisha’s Character), is a “sweet boy”. He’s a good kid with a good heart and he never lost that as he grew up because he had to hold onto that part of himself due to what was taken from him as a child. In spite of that, he has a very pure and almost simple-minded way of seeing the world.

Are you afraid of the dark, or are you afraid of what’s in it?

I’m not afraid of the dark. I love the dark and welcome a cordial encounter with whatever lurks in the dark. I am however…very uneasy by what lurks in the ocean that one can’t easily see. Ocean darkness is more difficult haha.

Do you have a favorite scary movie, series, or book? Let’s imagine you’ve suddenly found yourself in the middle of that world, what is your survival strategy?

Nightmare on Elm Street terrified me as a kid but I was still so into those movies (I saw them way too young on cable TV). I don’t know what I would do…try to control my dreams like in Dream Warriors?

What does your character define a monster as?

Ooooo…the greatest monster would be the monster that took away something very important to him.

What’s a fear your character overcame to join Candela Obscura?

Marion fought in the war before joining Candela. One of his greatest fears back then was losing the people who were important to him, and that fear remains since joining Candela. Upon learning that he could connect to those he cared for in a way that could protect them, he joined so he could do something about one of the things he fears most. There is another thing that he’s the most afraid of, and he thinks joining Candela is what could help him overcome it.
