EXANDRIA UNLIMITED PLAYLIST: GAME MASTER

Written by on August 11, 2021

The joyous and chaotic adventure of Exandria Unlimited comes to a close this week, so we’re celebrating with one final playlist featuring the musical stylings of the architect herself, ExU‘s Game Master Aabria Iyengar.

These playlists are curated carefully by each of the Exandria Unlimited cast members. All of our playlists can be found on Spotify via the official Critical Role account or you can listen to the playlist directly embedded below.

Without any further ado… Aabria, it’s over to you!

Waking up in Vegas by Katy Perry

I had no idea this was the energy the party was going to chase from minute one of the campaign, but I love it. They’re all so young and wild and new to the world, and an upbeat pop song fits them perfectly.

Stealing the Pinch by David Holmes

Most of these episodes had a mood to them (at least in the planning phase – no vibes survive contact with the party) and Episode 1 was a heist! I planned the session while listening to the Ocean’s 11 soundtrack.

Start a Riot by Duckwrth, Shaboozey

A song for my NPC Poska!

Mesa by Hans Zimmer, Benjamin Wallfisch

Episode 2 was planned to the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack. The *ahem* Ash Hole sequence was meant to feel simultaneously expansive and isolated, as the party battled the elements to reach the sigil. I listened to this song so much that I just started referring to the location as “The Mesa!”

Applause by Lady Gaga

This song immediately jumped to mind as the party “snuck” back into Emon. So subtle, y’all.

Do You? by TroyBoi

This song reminds me of Gilmore, it’s so funky and sexy and oof. My man. Love him so much.

Turbo Killer by Carpenter Brut

Somehow this became the song I planned the encounter at Artagan’s Gate to. It got me so hyped to come out swinging as Burn!Fearne.

One in a Million – Remix by Bosson

Gotta go with a song from Miss Congeniality to prepare to launch the party into the Gem of Byroden pageant!

Grave Robbers by John Williams

I wanted the rumble in the jungle to feel super pulpy and fun! Cue John Williams in all his Indy glory to help me plan the encounter.

Crocodile Rock by Elton John

And shout out to the party for absolutely crushing said encounter. The Wildmother is pleased.

May it Be by 2CELLOS

I listened to a lot of instrumental cello music while working on Niirdal-Poc. I kept coming back to “May it Be” – and then found out later that it’s from Lord of the Rings. The high fantasy vibes were too powerful to resist!

floating point by The Algorithm

I LOVE The Algorithm, and this was on repeat while planning for Episode 6’s chase sequence!

Uja by Tanya Tagaq

I also love Tanya Tagaq, and “Uja” just felt like the exact right feeling for the power and strangeness of the floating hexahedron in the ruins of Niirdal-Sarqet!

We Appreciate Power by Grimes, HANA

A song for my Villain in Purple, Myr’atta Niselor. Power is a major theme of this campaign, and I wanted our Big Bad to act as a foil to the group – she sees the powerful potential all around her and is truly relentless in her pursuit of it. While our story revolves around a group of people deciding their relationship to power as they grow as adventurers (and level up into specific subclasses), Myr’atta has fully decided – and she’ll burn down the world to attain it.

Shadow of the Colossus by Geek Music

I mean. Yeah. The title kind of nails it for the finale, right? Gotta have some big epic musical for the final fight!
