Music can be a dangerous thing to a girl like me. One minor chord progression, one dip of my toe back into a song I hyperfixated on during some crush-induced psychosis, and I’m back to hurting my own feelings with unrequited love songs. Tyranny is an ode to this aspect of myself- limerent, fixated, destructive, devoted. Most of these have lyrics that tie directly into her character creation and themes, so listen with open ears and in order, pretty please! And remember: true yearners know that getting what you want isn’t the point.
Track 1:
“Can a demon be saved? Can love purify? The pure always act from love, the damned always act from love.”
Track 2:
“Tyranny may not be a metalhead herself, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t include this track from Scottish thrashers Hellripper. All hail the goat!”
Track 3:
“This song by Orla Gartland captures both her emotional bombasticity and sweet, chaotic nature. She’s your friend, she’s your girl, she’s your little chaos!”
Track 4:
“One day Tyranny might take Wic off the pedestal. Not today, though.”
Track 5:
“So many Mitski songs fit Tyranny’s vibe, but I chose this one because it speaks to her reconciling her drive to cause pain with her desire to be good.”
Track 6:
“Bringing the energy back here with a fun lil girly pop song from Marina.”
Track 7:
“Even bad girls can do good things. Even bad girls have holy dreams.”
Track 8:
Track 9:
“Let’s hear it for toxic jealousy and possessiveness, folks!”
Track 10:
“Prayer is whatever you say on your knees.”
Track 11:
“Limerence is a bitch, ain’t it?”
Editor’s Note: Due to technical difficulties, we could not populate Track 11 on the actual Spotify playlist. If you’d like to hear the song on another platform, look here!
Track 12:
“Babe I’m intense, don’t you know what I meant? When I say I like you, that means I’m obsessed. ”
Track 13:
“This song captures two essential elements of Tyranny- her fixation with love, and her appetite for destruction. As King Princess says, ‘I just can’t help turning my love into pain.'”
Track 14:
“Allow me to indulge myself with an 8 minute doom metal song equaitng religion to romance, will ya?”
Track 15:
“A heavenly man, a good girl, a banger of a dance track. I needed something that fits the themes, but adds some necessary HEAT.”
Track 16:
“I wanted to close out with a classic fave that’s both heavy and unapologetically femme, just like my girl. This song has an element of purposeful destruction, which is what I hope Tyranny can hone in on in her future.”
