Written by Dani on February 5, 2025
Hello! Welcome to Critical Recap! I’m Dani Carr, the Critical Role Lore Keeper. Let’s dive into our recap of Critical Role Campaign 3 Episode 120: The Red End!
SECOND VERSE
Predathos’ second form is revealed to basically be the chamber itself, with an enormous head emerging from the back wall and multiple arms erupting from the ground. Dorian casts foresight and heals the group as they launch into the final phase of this fight with the god-eater. This new version of Predathos can send shrieking beams of necrotic energy, emit silent psychic screams, and swallow people whole – like Orym, who escapes the Maw of the Red End with misty step.
Predathos focuses on Imogen, attempting to reclaim her as fighting continues and the hands are whittled down. Dorian remembers that he is Bronte Secondsun Wyvernwind, prince of the Silken Squall, his newfound confidence and pride allowing him to cast crown of stars. Laudna spares Braius from her fireball blast, surprising him with her kindness – though they still need to talk later. Fearne is knocked unconscious, but Braius brings her back with healing hands.
Chetney attempts to protect Imogen from Predathos, casting blink on her to keep her out of the god eater’s sight. Dorian and Braius both are knocked unconscious and Chetney eventually drops concentration on blink, forcing Imogen’s return to the field. She is knocked unconscious and swallowed by Predathos. Ashton, in their diamond form, locks Predathos’ mouth open with their hammer and pulls Imogen out of the throat and away from danger.
“ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL”
Unfortunately, Ashton’s form drops and he is completely wrecked with two points of exhaustion. Laudna shoots disintegrate into Ashton’s hammer, reflecting the spell into Predathos – this burns Predathos’ last Legendary Resistance. Orym feeds Dorian a healing potion, saying that he needs him, but as Dorian wakes up, he sees Orym immediately get knocked out. Fearne too is hit and knocked out, so Dorian casts mass cure wounds to get everyone back up.
Imogen decides to activate her gift from the Arch Heart – the ring of resistance, which will cast meteor swarm if she rolls above her hit points. She succeeds and this incredibly powerful attack shatters the glass head of Predathos. A child of light emerges once more, asking if they can go now. It splinters into motes of light, which drift into Imogen. She needs to speak with the gods. Imogen messages Caleb Widogast, who is too spent to reach them.
A BARGAINING CHIP
Imogen then messages Planerider Ryn, who scrys on them and arrives to assist. They are teleported to the entrance of the Issylran backdoor, where they encounter the forward army of Exandrian soldiers. Chetney tells them that Predathos has been defeated, but a celestial stares at Imogen, able to see that she carries the god eater. A champion of the Ruiner calls down a Divine Intervention, but the god himself retreats at the sight of Imogen.
The army cannot touch Imogen, as killing her will release Predathos. They reluctantly agree to escort Bells Hells to Vasselheim. Planerider Ryn joins Bells Hells as the whole group returns to Issylra and are marched to the gates of Vasselheim, where they are greeted by the pointed ends of hundreds of crossbows and large ballista from the walls. Vasselheim – and the gods – await.
That is it for Episode 120 of Critical Role!
