Hello! Welcome to Critical Recap! I’m Dani Carr, the Critical Role Lore Keeper. Let’s dive into our recap of Critical Role Campaign 3 Episode 106: Unseelie Interrupted!
EGGS & GLASS
It’s sleepover time at C-Popper/Chetney super fan Weyland Amaredda’s house, though it is more museum than comfy place to sleep). Imogen reaches out to Ira Wendagoth, who is keeping a low profile in Kreviris, and invites him to join them at Nana Morri’s in the Fey Realm to spy on the Unseelie Court. Ira agrees, eager to have some fun. Fearne, after failing to convince Weyland to trade her, attempts to steal Weyland’s prized wooden egg—and gets her hand caught in the trapped cabinet. Weyland is upset, but releases her from the trap.
The next day, Weyland interviews Chetney for his zine, and Chetney gives Weyland a gift of a peacock sculpture. Bells Hells head out to meet with Keyleth in the Abundant Terrace. She is glad they are going to the Fey Realm, as the Unseelie are an unknown right now and they need insight on their movements. She helps them teleport across the planes to Nana Morri’s home of Ligament Manor, where Fearne reunites with her grandmother and introduces her to Dorian and Braius. Nana is smitten with Braius, who is happy to flirt with her.
Chetney gives Nana a piece of Ruidian glass—the ‘piece of Predathos’ that was part of his payment for his pact. Nana is sorry that they lost FCG, having felt their thread break. Fearne encourages Nana to make a love connection with Ira, but Nana informs her that particular ship has sailed and she’s ready to make new connections. When Ira arrives, she plays hard to get, making Braius and Ira vie for attention with hand kisses and compliments. Fearne’s mother Birdie gives Fearne a necklace with a pendant fashioned from the broken Weave Lens.
THE KALEIDOSCOPIC TAPESTRY
Bells Hells must make haste to Pravenier, so Nana conjures spectral horses they can fly. They ask Nana how long she has been alive, but she has no idea. Time is a weird soup here. The Fey Realm existed in some way before the gods arrived, but Nana doesn’t recall a time before then. Bells Hells leave by magic horse, whipping past tree branches at a remarkable pace. When they arrive at the Amethyst Gulch Sierras, the steeds vanish.
They approach the walls of Pravenier, the former community of free and artistic fey that fell victim to a mass poisoning, likely caused by enemies of the Arch Heart. The village is beautiful, though overgrown. This greenery covers numerous corpses in the street. From atop the wall, Bells Hells spot figures in dark armor heading to the temple. Chetney uses Grim Psychometry on a corpse, seeing that the mass poisoning started in the water.
Three of the armored Unseelie enter the temple, while two stand sentry and others fan out. A large black hound with a human face skulks around the outside of the temple, keeping watch. Chetney sends an arcane eye into the tower and Imogen heads to the roof as the fey dragon Gloamglut arrives with Ludinus and Sorrowlord Zathuda. They enter the tower and Ira leads Bells Hells in silently disposing of the sentries outside. Dorian casts charm monster on the hound, sending the pooch away from the village by telling him to go on and git.
TURMOIL
With the coast clear, Orym overhears the last bit of the conversation within the tower. Ludinus is angry that the Unseelie Court allowed their own Fey Malleus Key to fall, and have been absent during the other Ruby Vanguard milestones. This Unseelie emissary claims that their strength is in waiting in the shadows until the moment is right, and that they are still supportive of everything Ludinus is doing; they are simply being cautious. Ludinus disagrees.
The emissary will relay Ludinus’ misgivings to the Court. Ludinus says to tell the Court that he expects an assault on the Malleus Key soon and that he will need their army to deliver their “uncanny ambush.” The emissary’s Keeper should know what Ludinus means. Their window is closing and the Cage is nearly at hand. As he and Zathuda leave, Ludinus complains about the difficulties of speaking to the Fey and how disappointed he is in Zathuda’s failures.
Bells Hells realize they need to stop that message from getting to the Unseelie, so Laudna casts animate object on a statue of the Arch Heart within the temple. Fighting breaks out inside the temple, and Gloamglut is summoned. When Fearne sneaks in and casts transmute rock on the pillars, she is noticed by Gloamglut. Dun dun dunnnn!
That is it for Episode 106 of Critical Role!
FINAL THOUGHTS
- Keyleth is off gathering Vox Machina to come out of retirement! Still gotta find Scanlan, it seems.
- Inner conflict with the Unseelie Court! Why would Potentate Sammanar be pulling away from supporting the Ruby Vanguard?
- Nana Morri told Orym that his journey wasn’t over, implying that’s why his pact is still in play.
