STATE OF THE ROLE: Winter Updates!

Written by on December 14, 2018

2018 has been such an amazing year for all of us here at Critical Role. We opened our own studio, our very own online shop (and a UK shop!), threw our first NYC live show, made our first trek over the pond and met a bunch of Critters in London, launched a bunch of new shows, and rolled 220 nat20s (thanks, Crit Role Stats!).

The best part is that we’re JUST getting started! Before we head off into the new year, we wanted to share a few important updates with you.

Here’s how December and early January are shaping up for us here at Critical Role Land.

During the last season of All Work No Play, Liam and Sam built a pretty epic MAME cabinet, which is something that we have dreamed about here at CR Land since we opened our new studio. We’d be foolish if we didn’t share our MAME cabinet love with you, and so we’re doing exactly that.

Each week, we’ll select a few of our favorite retro games and will invite a few friends from time to time to play along! To get a taste of MAME Drop, check out our previous episode (the nostalgia feels are real), featuring Liam and Taliesin below.

MAME Drop will premiere on Tuesday, January 15th at 4pm Pacific at VOD is available immediately for Critical Role Twitch channel subscribers and will be available at at 10am Pacific on Thursday, January 17th.

Every day, we’re incredibly inspired by all of the amazing art that our community creates — So much so that we realized that we need to up our own art skills. So, we asked our friend, Critter, and comic book artist extraordinaire Babs Tarr (Batgirl, Motor Crush) to teach us how to master the pencil (or pen, or drawing tablet, or paintbrush, or… well, you get the point).

Every Wednesday, Babs will sit down and teach us (and you too!) the basics of drawing. A few weeks back, Babs sat down with Marisha for a lesson on how to draw our favorite bad ass monk, Beauregard. Check out the video below for a solid overview of what you can expect during Pub Draw.

Pub Draw will premiere on Wednesday, January 23rd at 5pm Pacific at VOD is available immediately for Critical Role Twitch channel subscribers and will be available at at 10am Pacific on Friday, January 25th.

This is Brian working hard behind-the-scenes on season 2.

Last season on Between the Sheets, our host with the most, Brian W. Foster, sat down with the cast of Critical Role to learn more about the stories behind our favorite storytellers. Our intimate one-on-one conversational series will continue for season two and this time around, Brian is chatting with some AMAZING new guests. As always, each week, we’ll also feature a specialty cocktail tailored to each guest. This season, we’re proud to join forces with an amazing group of Critter bartenders — Henry Oh (Grand Army in Brooklyn), Tyler Caffall (The NoMad Hotel, NYC), and Alexandra Caffall (Little Park in Manhattan, Fort Defiance in Brooklyn).

Between the Sheets Season 2 will premiere on Monday, January 28th at 7pm Pacific at VOD is available immediately for Critical Role Twitch channel subscribers and will be available at at 10am Pacific on Wednesday, January 30th and via podcast on Monday, February 4th.

We have a very special weekend planned in January here in Los Angeles. We hope to see you at our very first art exhibit, The Art of Exandria, which features art from over 50 community artists from around the world!
